| Matt Russell, Navy All-American Goalie is the fourth in Gottleib's poster series. While other posters emphasize one-on-one matchups, this poster recognizes the accomplishments of Navy's All-American goalie from 2004-2006. Matt became Navy's starting goalie in 2004 as a sophomore, the year Navy's Cinderella Lacrosse team lost to Syracuse in the NCAA championship by one goal. Matt attempted to play with a broken collar bone in the late stages of that game, and finally had to take himself out. He earned first team All-American honors that year.
The inspirational quote from Matt, at the base of the poster reads, "Leave it all on the field - No regrets!" Matt reminds the athlete that there are no second chances for the game that is underway.
Continued excellence resulted in second and third team selections in 2005 and 2006, respectively. He holds NCAA records for goals allowed per game: season (5.70, 2006), and career (6.28). Matt was awarded the Naval Academy Athletic Association Sword upon graduation as the Navy male athlete who excelled in his years of varsity competition. The original painting is acrylic on canvas, measuring 30x40". Gold highlights accentuate the heroic image of Matt Russell, a small and feisty goalkeeper who exemplified the characteristics of courage and commitment to excellence.
